About The Cheboche Area Trust
The Cheboche Area Trust (Trust) was started in 2002 by Katy and Bruce Austin and Di Patchett following a visit to the area.  On seeing the needs of the village the three friends on their return to New Zealand decided to initiate a trust to support the village of Cheboche.  They asked several of their friends to join them and established a formal organisation which ultimately gained charitable trust status allowing donators to make tax deductible donations.  A constitution was written and adopted at an Annual General Meeting.

        Aims of the Trust

The Purpose of the Trust is to support the Village Committee of the Cheboche Village in projects that enhance the life opportunities of the village people. Katy and Bruce and Di met with the Village Committee to understand their ambitions for the village.  Their requests were simple but far reaching.

'What we want is education for our children and a healthy life for all of us' was the request.

Back in New Zealand the Trust gave consideration to this request and developed an action plan around stated projects.

Early on there was the focus on fund raising.  A programme of activities to provide funds was established.  Katy and Di spent considerable time talking with a variety of community and service groups around the Wellington Area.  Gradually funds accummulated and so did a huge pile of quality used clothes so much so that the garage at Katy and Bruce's place had no room for the cars!  The generosity of people was overwhelming.  On two trips to Nepal over 200 kg of high quality used clothing was taken to the village.  See Past Projects and Achievements
